PEC Announces 2013 River of the Year Paddling Series

To celebrate the Monongahela River’s designation as 2013’s Pennsylvania River of the Year, the River Town Program, has planned a series of paddling trips to explore the river and the communities along its edges. Beginners and experienced paddlers alike are welcome!

Pre-registration for all trips is required and equipment rental will be provided by Wilderness Voyageurs.

Schedule

May 25th- Point Marion to Greensboro

The trip, approximately 6 miles in length, will include educational presentations, as well as a side trip up Dunkard Creek.

June 8th- Rices Landing to Fredericktown

Join the River Town Program, a project of Pennsylvania Environmental Council, for a one-day paddle along the scenic Monongahela River from Rices Landing to Fredericktown. Beginners and experienced paddlers are welcome! The trip, approximately 8.5 miles, will include educational presentations, as well as an optional  side trip up Ten Mile Creek, a tributary to the Mon at Fredericktown-Millsboro. August 17th- Brownsville to California

Join the River Town Program, a project of Pennsylvania Environmental Council, for a half-day paddle along the scenic Monongahela River from Brownsville to California. The trip, approximately 4.5 miles, will include educational presentations, as well as a short side trip up Red Stone Creek, a tributary to the Mon. Trip leaders will point out interesting features and provide information on water quality while on the water. Registration is required.

September 7th- Charleroi to Monongahela

The trip, approximately 9 miles, will include a welcome from local leaders and educational presentation at lunch. Registration is required. This trip is open to all experience levels, but participants should be physically fit enough to paddle for 3-4 hours with a lunch break half way.
