Parent Project:

Nearly thirty participants, ranging from experienced paddlers to first-timers, took to the Mon in canoes and kayaks on May 25th for the first trip of the “River of the Year Paddling Series.” Paddlers received a warm welcome at the Point Marion Community Park Boat Launch from Borough Councilwoman Victoria Evans and safety instructions from the river guide from Wilderness Voyageurs, before getting out on the Mon.

At the lunch stop at the confluence of Dunkard Creek and the Monongahela River, paddlers were treated to a home made lunch provided by Apple Annie’s and an informative presentation from Terri Davin of the Greene County Watershed Alliance.

Following lunch, the group paddled up Dunkard Creek approximately one mile before returning to the Mon and floating downstream to Greensboro where a shuttle returned them to their vehicles at Point Marion.

This trip covered approximately 30 miles of the Monongahela River between Point Marion at the West Virginia Border to Monongahela in Washington County.
