PEC Statement on Act 162 of 2014

Enacted legislation weakens riparian buffer protections.
October 23, 2014

(Pittsburgh, PA)  Yesterday Governor Corbett signed House Bill 1565 into law as Act 162 of 2014. Act 162 amends Pennsylvania’s Clean Streams Law to weaken forested riparian buffer requirements in Pennsylvania’s most pristine watersheds.

Enacted legislation allows one chamber veto of state greenhouse gas emission reduction plan.
October 23, 2014

(Pittsburgh, PA)  Yesterday Governor Corbett signed House Bill 2354 – the Pennsylvania Greenhouse Gas Regulation Implementation Act – into law as Act 175 of 2014. Act 175 grants either chamber of the General Assembly unparalleled authority to veto any plan developed by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (Department), pursuant to Federal Clean Air Act requirements, to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from existing power plants.

PEC Urges Governor to Veto Bad Environmental Legislation

Legislation passed by General Assembly would remove important riparian buffer protections and inhibit action on reducing greenhouse gas emissions in Pennsylvania.
October 16, 2014

Today PEC sent the following letters to Governor Corbett, urging him to veto both HB1565 and HB2354 as passed by the General Assembly.

HB1565 would remove important riaprian buffer protections in high quality and exceptional value watersheds.

HB2354 would inhibit efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Pennsylvania.
