Davitt Woodwell

Davitt Woodwell is President and CEO of the Pennsylvania Environmental Council (“PEC”), a leading force in land and water conservation across the Commonwealth. Working with PEC since 1991, Woodwell took a leave of absence during 2000 and 2001 to serve as Executive Director of the Riverlife Task Force that developed a master plan for Pittsburgh’s waterfronts and proposed the creation of the new “Three Rivers Park.” Woodwell’s current work focuses on issues including shale gas development, alternative energy, and trail and riverfront development.

A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, Woodwell is currently a member of the boards of Aspinwall Riverfront Park and the Steel City Rowing Club. He also serves on the PA DCNR Natural Gas Advisory Committee and committees of the Center for Sustainable Shale Development and participated in the Institute of Politics’ Marcellus Shale Roundtable. He participated in the Department of Environmental Protection’s regulatory negotiation on the special protection waters program and served on the Pittsburgh Ozone Stakeholder Working Group. He also served on the Allegheny County Air Pollution Control Advisory Committee. Woodwell was appointed to the Governor’s Commission on Greenways. At PEC he has also served as Executive Vice President for Western Pennsylvania, Director of the Western Pennsylvania office, and Staff Attorney.
